Nando's gets blurry cocky
28 April 2009
Just when Nando's was getting lambasted in the media for agreeing to pull the controversial, much publicised “Julius” advert, the brazen chicken franchise shows that the only thing chicken about them is their menu.
In a move that is sure to get tongues wagging (yet again), Nando's has edited the original advert which had the ANCYL up in arms about the implied usage of its firebrand leader Julius Malema. The new advert features a voice which is electronically distorted and the puppet's face has been blurred.
Of course everybody knows already who the advert is poking fun at, however, the latest move is designed to appease the ANCYL's major concerns about the original. It's a cheeky move that in spite of the ANCYL's best efforts to bring the matter to an end has instead injected even more humour and energy into the campaign.

Brilliant strategy. Create a satirical ad, make sure it has enough oomph to get the attention of the subject(s), Hope like hell that they object. Play up the objection, debate pulling the ad, getting consumers on your side in the process. . .more
