Best of Brewer’s Droop on sale

Chris Brewer
17 November 2009

Well, the book's finally done and went on sale on 11 November 2009!

It's called "The Best of Brewer's Droop" and is being promoted as a stocking-filler and an easy lavatory read. Because it's slim and pocket-sized it's handy to glance at during meetings or boring sex.

It was quite difficult to decide which stories were really the "best" because I liked all of them. But some were funnier or more relevant than others obviously.

Published by Wag The Dog Publishers at R100 (including VAT and delivery) it's a good Christmas gift I suppose as it has many uses. It can be propped under your laptop screen for a better angle and it's great for whacking spiders. Or you could even read it I suppose. And when there's no toilet paper left...

If Winston Churchill were still alive he'd say something like "what a splendid idea for a book and I shall waste no time in reading it."

By the way, you won't find a copy available on any SAA flights and it won't be on sale at airports either - which is a pity really because it's quite an interesting thing to occupy yourself with on those boring flights. Mind you, I can't really blame SAA or ACSA.

It's not being sold in bookshops either because the distribution problems and costs are a nightmare.

You can order a copy at either:

www.brewersdroop.co.za

or through Marketing Web (Wag The Dog Publishers)

If you want a personalised copy then I'll gladly do whatever you'd like (as long as it's legal and/or medically safe)  - just let me know.

The astute reader will have immediately noticed that the Droop web site is now operational. It'll be modified and improved over the next few months but it's not half bad even if I do say so myself.

You or your friends can also subscribe to future (free) editions of Brewer's Droop there too as well as reading lots of other good stuff.

WIN A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK

Simply answer this question and submit your answer on my web site. The first correct entry drawn will win an autographed copy of the "Best of Brewer's Droop". The second correct entry will get TWO copies.

What was the name of the famous rock star (still alive) who sang in the choir at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II?

INFLATION

In the last Droop I was having a little rant about the spiralling cost of stuff.

Well, one of my readers tells me that Gillette shaving cream has gone up 54%. I haven't checked this out myself but I'm hardly surprised.

Please let me know if you find any other product that's increased significantly in price.

KEEP THE WORKERS POOR

I was chatting to a senior manager of a well-known company recently and he proudly told me that they were making quite substantial profits, despite the recession.

What really had him excited was the fact that they can capitalise on the fact that, generally speaking, employees all over the world are not getting increases or bonuses.

This company can afford to pay them more but, as he says gleefully, "we're not giving any increases and they're just happy to have a job."

Hmmm. I wonder if his ancestors were the guys sending 10 year old children down the coal mines just over a century ago? And in the slave trade before that? I'll bet he buys his shirts directly from some Asian or Mexican sweat shop too.

All forms of pond life have higher moral values than he does.

When employers exploit their workers then they themselves are on a treacherous path. If you annoy the worker bees too much they'll one day say "sod this for a lark" and come back to sting you.

I hope to still be around when this guy gets what he deserves.

MY DAD's 92

My father went into a chemist shop the other day to buy some Viagra.

"I'd like 6 pills, cut into quarters please"

"I can cut them for you" said the chemist "but a quarter tablet won't give you a full erection"

"That's okay" he said "I'm 92 and I don't want an erection. I just want it sticking out far enough so I don't pee on my slippers."

I understand how he feels.

Have a great summer!

Chris
